Travelling with baby - nomadic accessories for travelling light

With the arrival of the warm weather, you are planning a family weekend away or perhaps you are already planning your summer holiday. Travelling with a baby requires a little organisation and it is therefore very useful to determine which what you need to take with you on holiday and what to leave at home to travel as light as possible.

Your best allies will be light and multifunctional accessories. Find out what to pack for a holiday with a baby with our 7 favourite childcare accessories.

1. A physiological baby sling for travelling

The baby carrier is a must-have for getting around with baby on holiday as well as in everyday life. It will be perfect for pacing the streets of a small village this summer, where a pushchair could easily be cumbersome and impractical on cobbled roads. You'll have your hands free to enjoy while baby is snuggled up to you.

However, there are a multitude of baby carriers on the market, but our favourite is the French brand Mama Hangs which has managed to innovate and offer much more than a baby carrier. They have created the first safe, comfortable and stylish physiological baby carrier. We love its multifunctional aspect which, when the child is no longer in it, looks like a piece of clothing like any other.

2. A transportable pram

For parents who want to opt for a pram for the holidays, there is obviously the famous Yoyo pram from Baby Zen. It is a real hit with young parents and it is easy to see why: light and super compact, this pram can be folded and unfolded with one hand in a few seconds and can therefore be easily transported anywhere. The Yoyo pram is also multifunctional because it can follow the evolution of the child from birth until the moment when he no longer needs a pram thanks to its various options.

3. A mobile cot for the holidays

When you want to continue travelling with your child, a cot is a must. Although "kid-friendly" hotels and accommodation are developing and increasingly offering cots, it is often easier to have your own for greater peace of mind (for you) and comfort (for baby). Here too, you need to be strategic and opt for the most compact and lightest possible cot so as not to take up too much space during your holidays.

The French brand Escape Lifestyle has created the NAOS cot which we highly recommend. Super light (4kgs), compact and easy to assemble, this cot is totally transportable but also very comfortable for the baby because it is made of a memory foam mattress. When baby grows, the bed can also be used as a playpen thanks to its side opening.

I also really liked the baby tent Deryan that I used during my trip to Guadeloupe with my daughter Julia. It is not a bed but it is very practical for naps. It protects from the sun, has a mosquito net and is easy to store.

4. A practical changing mat

When travelling, unforeseen circumstances often arise and you don't always have access to a public place with a changing table. The nomadic changing mat will quickly become your best ally during your holidays. We recommend this one from Mero Mero which is comfortable, waterproof and has several practical storage pockets to keep everything you need to change your child.

5. A mobile breastfeeding pillow for feeding baby

The nursing pillow will be a great help for breastfeeding mothers who do not want to deprive themselves of comfort during their journey. If it is sufficiently ergonomic and firm, it will relieve baby's weight, prevent back or arm pain and help to find a good position for breastfeeding. The nursing pillow is also a good way to cushion baby on the train or plane where he or she will feel safe and secure against you.

The problem with maternity pillows is that they are often bulky and heavy, so not at all practical to take with you when you travel.

That's why we created Liberty, the first inflatable and therefore 100% transportable nursing pillow. Thanks to its innovative design (an inflatable interior and a quick release valve), it inflates and deflates in 15 seconds and fits into a small pouch. It is therefore an extremely easy-to-carry nursing pillow and will delight all parents on the move.

With durability in mind, we have designed this cushion so that it can also be used as an extra bassinet to put your baby in during a picnic in the park or a walk on the beach.

6. A playmat that's easy to transport

mobile play matBecause baby will also need a space to play, dream and begin to awaken to the world, we have designed a practical play mat and comfortable to take anywhere. Ideal for travel, it rolls or folds easily to fit under any stroller or in baby's suitcase. Unlike most playmats on the market, it's neither brightly-colored nor too big, making it the perfect playmate for little ones from birth. It's just as practical for putting baby down as it is for breast-feeding when you're in the park or out and about in nature! It's your turn to comfortable feeds

7. A maxi nursing nappy

The nappy is a must-have for your baby's trousseau and even more so when you travel. Lightweight and compact, it is very practical thanks to its versatility. The nappy can be used as a blanket against the wind or to provide shade for your child in sunny weather (but remember that it is not UV resistant and that air circulation must be ensured). It can also be used as a bib or light blanket when the air cools down in the late summer evening. Finally, it can be used as a nursing nappy to provide some privacy for a mother who is breastfeeding outside.

The nappy Free Mum The Free Mum nappy we have created has little snaps on the ends to tie it around your neck. The result: no more risk of baby pulling on it and revealing your breasts, it's securely fastened and keeps you out of sight.

8. Rental of childcare equipment for travel

If you like to travel regularly, the accessories for travelling with baby that we have just listed will quickly pay for themselves and can be good ideas to include in your birth list. However, for parents who travel on a more occasional basis or who don't want to spend a large budget, there is another alternative for travelling light with baby: hiring baby equipment

Various rental services exist in France. If you are going on holiday in Bordeaux or the surrounding area, we recommend Gambin. They offer the essentials for your child (pushchair, highchair, cot...) and deliver them directly to the address of your choice. You can also find some of our favourite nomadic products such as the Yoyo pushchair.
